Adventure Time Dvd:The Land Before Time

This film is an instant classic. From director Don Bluth and legendary filmmakers Steven Spielberg and George Lucas comes a family movie that is both sad and heartwarming.

The story is about a baby brontosaurus named Littlefoot who is searching with his family for The Great Valley, the last place in the world that is still green. However, Littlefoot's mother dies protecting him from a T-Rex called Sharptooth and gets separated from his Grandparents by an earthquake. At first, Littlefoot is alone until he meets up with serval other characters from other Dinosaur families. This includes Cera the hot headed Triceratops, Ducky the innocent Duckbill, Petrie the cowardly pterodactyl and Spike the silent stegosaurus. Along their travels, they must deal with many trails. From finding food, surviving harsh enviroments, avoiding Sharptooth and fighting amoung themselves. But despite all that, they will find friendship and courage as they work together to find The Great Valley.

Don Bluth really stepped up his game here after making "An American Tail." This film is even more epic, funny, happy, scary, tragic and heartwarming than his previous work. To me, this will always be my favorite animated film of all time. No animated film from Disney or Dreamworks can ever top this in my opinon. I loved this film as a child and my late Grandmother loved it too. It brings back so many memories everytime I watch it. The characters are perectly written for this film. Each one of them has a speical trait about them. Like Littlefoot's determination to find The Great Valley, Cera's stubborn attitude, Ducky's innocence, Petrie's cowardance and Spike's silence. The adult characters are also fantasic. Espeically Littlefoot's Mother who pretty much is the reason for Littlefoot's goal. The animalistic Sharptooth is a great villain, with the only goal of trying to eat the characters. The voice acting is a very strong part of the film. It's only missing the voice of Dom DeLuise who always voiced characters in Don Bluth's films. But the voice work by Pat Hingle who plays both the narrator and the character Rooter who gives Littlefoot comfort after his Mother's death is fantasic. Speaking of which, this film also has very sad scenes that I think will always make you cry. I'm 23 years old and I still get very teary when I see scenes like the death of Littlefoot's mother and when Littlefoot sees his shadow thinking it's his mother. Even in scenes like Littlefoot's "birth", I can't help but shed a tear. It's such an innocent scene with a beautiful narration. "All that remained of his heard was his Mother, Grandmother, and his Grandfather. He knew them by sight, by scent and by their love. He knew they would be together, always." It touches my heart and makes me think of my family. Finally, I think another strong thing of this movie is the music by James Horner. The music has very powerful and emotional feel to it. It suits every scene it's in. Let's not forget, the song "If We Hold On, Together" by Diana Ross is a very touching song and it fits wonderfully during the end credits.

Overall, I recomend to every parent reading this to show their children this film at least once in their lives. It's a emotional ride, that will make you feel good in the end.
